The Schmidt coupling is a special type of mechanical coupling used to connect two shafts that are parallel but not in the same line (i.e., they have an offset). It coists of two outer discs connected by a third middle disc using links or pi. This design allows torque to be tramitted smoothly even when the shafts are laterally misaligned, without bending them. Schmidt couplings are compact and ideal for high-speed, precision applicatio where space is limited.
